Top 10 Reasons to Start a Blog Today!
Many business people I come across, ask me what a “blog” is…so here’s my definition:
A Web site on which an individual records (writes) opinions, useful information, reviews, etc. on a regular basis.
The purpose of having a blog has many benefits including getting more traffic by Google, more business, more income and more exposure! Here are my top 10 reasons why you should start a blog today:
- To Engage Visitors. Yes it’s true, you have a very short window of opportunity to keep people on your website. Statistics say under 6 seconds. Having an informative, up-to-date, and useful Blog keeps your visitors engaged and wanting more.
- To Help People. As Zig Ziglar is famous for saying, “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.” So help people with your knowledge and expertise.
- To Bring People Together. When you write a blog post, it naturally brings “like-minded” people together in one place. So if you’re blog is about parents with teenagers, then you’ll bring all those parents together to not only read your blog, but to comment on your blog and share stories and ideas. This builds a sense of “community.”
- To Be Seen as the Expert in your Field. Yes, when you consistently blog about your industry, it elevates you to your audience as the “go to expert” in your field. You’re seen as someone who is more serious and professional about that industry than others.
- To Build the Relationship in order to Build Sales. When you have a blog, it gives people more exposure about you and your business over time. Some people call this “drip marketing” because you are slowly building the relationship so that once the trust is created, you make the offer on your products and/or services and the person feels confident and secure enough to buy from you.
- To Market and Promote. You want your blog posts to be relevant to your industry, and if you do have a product or service related to that blog post then it is natural to include that in your blog post. If people don’t know about it, they can’t take action. So don’t be shy about letting people know what you have to offer.
- It Improves your Search-Engine Ranking. This is HUGE! Google loves “updated” and “fresh” content and rewards websites that have new information posted on a regular basis. So if you’re website is stagnant, you need to start a blog! More traffic, means more visitors and more potential customers and more money for your business!
- Create an ebook. Yes, there are many “bloggers” who will take several related blog posts and gather them together to create an ebook that they sell. It’s a great way to re-purpose your content. You can sell the ebook on your site or publish it for free on Amazon’s Kindle.
- Drive More Traffic to Your Site. Traffic is hard to come by these days. If you “strategically” use a blog and do some pre-work on the keywords, then you can send targeted traffic to your site. So don’t just haphazardly write a blog, make sure you research the keywords for that blog post and use them in the title and naturally in the blog post.
- A Blog can be your Automated Newsletter. On one of my websites (www.becomea6figurewoman.com), I have my blog connected with my Aweber account, so that when I post a new blog, Aweber automatically pulls that blog post into a pre-formatted newletter I created and it kills 2 birds with one stone!
