Clik here to view.As a Website Designer, let’s just say I’ve seen a lot of b-a-d websites. Have you ever seen the billboard signs saying, “We Buy Ugly Houses” put up by real estate investors. I’d love to put up a sign saying, “I can fix your Ugly Website”!
Honestly though, it’s not just being “attractive” or “unattractive” that really matters, however, it’s more about what the purpose and the goal of the website is (or should be) that makes the difference.
For example, there are a lot of websites that look attractive, but make no money and do not convert traffic to customers. On the other side of the coin, I have seen some not so attractive websites, that make the owner 6+ figures a year! So having a “pretty” website isn’t the answer.
The answer is knowing the purpose of your website.
Most business owners aren’t experts in website design or the elements of a good website. All they know is…“I want more business and more money”.
The expert should be the “website designer”, but I’ve found that many web designers are very “techy”, but not very sales and marketing oriented.
I come from the world of sales and marketing as well as being a copywriter, so I have a deep understanding of the power of combining great website design with sales and marketing.
In order to help you, I want you to take the “Does Your Website Suck” Quiz that was developed by an intelligent website designer, Marisa Murgatroyd, of www.liveyourmessage.com:
- New visitors can tell who you are, what you do and how you can help them within just a few seconds of landing on your website.
- You know what you want your visitors to do and you have a clear call to action on every single page of your website.
- You haven’t updated or added new content to your site in the last month (or your content is obviously outdated – the last event was in 2011).
- You know your top 10 keywords and have search engine optimized title tags, meta descriptions, and h1 tags on every page of your website. And you have a site map. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, answer False.)
- Your video skips during playback or you don’t have any video on your website.
- People aren’t opting in to your list daily (or you don’t even have an opt-in box on your home page).
- You know exactly how many unique visitors are coming to your website each month, where they come from and how long they’re staying.
- You receive weekly social media mentions and organic links back to your website.
- Your website has all the necessary legalese: privacy policy, terms of use and return policy (if you sell products). And, if you’re using testimonials, you understand the FTC regulations.
- Your website cost more than the money you’ve made from it.
I don’t think I need to give you your results as you can figure that out just by the questions.
The bottom line is the purpose of your website is to be a list-building, money making machine! If it’s not, then let’s talk.
I have a new client special and I’m sure I can help your website “not suck” and help you grow your list and your income.
Once you have a well-performing website, then you can focus on what you do best…running your business!
